How to Change Your Diet: Making the
Transition to Low Glycemic Index Food.
Introducing low glycemic index food into your normal daily diet
can be quite difficult, if you don't do it slowly and carefully
you may have a hard time adjusting.
The good news is it doesn't really have to be that bad, you
know that eating low glycemic index food will help you become
healthier and fitter. You will also feel an awful lot
better in yourself. It's the actual switching over
process that can be difficult.
Why adjustment is difficult.
Basically, we are all creatures of habit. This isn't really
a criticism, but more than likely you have been eating the
foods you do now for a long time. Changing your eating
patterns can take an awful lot of willpower, and you will need
real determination to make a change in your lifestyle.
This is probably one of the major reasons that most people fail
when it comes to dieting. The way you change your lifestyle
really depends on the type of person you are, some people like
to change things gradually, whilst others go for the more
drastic and instant approach! The $64,000 question is which
option is right for you?
The instant approach to changes in your
diet.
Some people like to introduce the short-sharp-shock method
and try to get rid of their unhealthy eating habits straight
away, this way doesn't suit everybody and a lot of people don't
like the cold turkey effect! Perhaps one of the easiest
options if you decided to go down this route is to wait until
you have very little food left in your pantry and you need to
go shopping. Then, consult the glycemic index, and begin to
make a list of healthier low GI foods, now restock your pantry
with these new healthier foods and there's no way around it.
You just have to eat healthier!
Change your diet more gradually.
Changing gradually isn't as easy as you may think either but
a lot of people believe this is the only way they can do it.
The problem is when you change gradually, you will be left with
half and half in your fridge, 50% will be healthy food, 50%
will be your old unhealthy food, and again human nature will
prevail and chances are, when you feel hungry you will make a
beeline directly to the unhealthy side of the fridge!
If this option seems familiar don't be dismayed, there is a way
around this. Every time you go shopping, make sure you buy one
extra low GI food and one less high GI food. Pretty soon,
your fridge will be stocked full of healthy, low GI food, and
you wouldn't even have noticed the transition.
Why must we make these changes?
It can be very hard altering your lifestyle, and changing
the way we eat can be quite torturous, when we make these major
lifestyle decisions we are usually aware that we have a health
or weight issue that needs to be addressed, for this reason, we
must make a concerted effort and stick to the plan.
